Accounts

Accounts are where your money sits day to day: bank accounts, cash, brokerage or exchange cash, pensions, fixed income and credit cards. They live in the Net Worth tab next to your assets and debts.

This section covers how to add and configure accounts, what the account screen shows, how balances are adjusted and reconciled, and what archiving or deleting does.

The Net Worth tab

The Net Worth tab is home to every account, asset and debt you track. The summary bar at the top shows your net worth (assets minus liabilities) and a proportional green-versus-red bar; tap either total to jump to the first asset or liability chip. When you have both, a Debt X of assets line shows debt as a share of your assets.

Below it, a horizontal chip bar lists asset groups, a divider, then liability groups (a selected liability chip turns red). Each chip shows its title and a compact total.

  • Assets: Banking, Accounts Receivable, Stock Tickers, Crypto Tickers, Homes, Cars, Domains, Precious Metals, Others and Insurance.
  • Liabilities: Credit Cards and I Owe.
  • Swipe left or right over the list to move between chips; it wraps around at the ends.
  • Tap the tune icon to open Reorder Tabs: drag the handles within Assets and Liabilities, or tap Reset to put the biggest totals first. The first tab is the one you land on.
  • On Android, pull down to refresh exchange rates and prices.

Banking groups accounts into Cash, Bank, Pension and Fixed Income sections, each with a total. Wise and PayPal accounts collapse into one AUTO row labelled N currencies; CDTs sit at the bottom under CDT.

Hint

Insurance is informational only: coverage is protection, not an asset, so policies never count toward your net worth.

Account types

Every account has one of seven types. The type decides where it appears on the Net Worth tab and which settings it offers.

Cash
Money you hold physically. Listed in Banking under Cash.
Bank
Everyday bank accounts, savings included (there is no separate savings type). Listed in Banking under Bank.
Brokerage
Cash held at a broker. Shown as cash inside the Stock Tickers chip, next to your holdings.
Crypto Exchange
Cash held at an exchange. Shown as cash inside the Crypto Tickers chip.
Pension
Retirement and pension funds. Listed in Banking under Pension.
Fixed Income
Fixed-return products. Listed in Banking under Fixed Income, with a Yield setting.
Credit Card
A liability: the balance is negative when you owe. Tracks a credit limit and statement dates.

Credit cards sit under the Credit Cards chip, biggest debt first. Balances stay negative on the card; the total above is the debt you carry. See Debts.

CDT also appears in the type grid and the quick-add menu, but it is an asset with its own flow, not an account type — see Assets and investments.

Adding an account

Onboarding creates a cash account for you. To add more:

  • On the Net Worth tab, tap + in the toolbar. It adds whatever the selected chip holds: Banking opens the account wizard, Credit Cards opens it pre-set to a card.
  • Tap the center + while on Net Worth to open the quick-add sheet and choose Bank account (or CDT, Stock or ETF, Crypto, Precious metal, Other asset, Debt, Receivable). On other tabs a tap creates a transaction; long-press for the sheet.
  • Create one inline from the transaction form or the statement importer.

The wizard is titled New Financial Account (or New Card once you pick a card) and has four stages:

  1. 1What type of account is it? Pick one of the seven types or CDT. Skipped when you start from the Credit Cards chip.
  2. 2What's the account name? Tap the hero icon to Change icon, fill in Account name and Institution, then tap Next. Cards ask Let's name this card — use something easy to identify, like Amex Platinum.
  3. 3Currency and balance: choose the currency on the amount, type the current balance and tap Create account. For cards, enter Credit Limit first, then Current Debt (the keypad starts negative; ± flips it to Credit balance), check the computed Available and tap Create card.
  4. 4The account is saved and its full edit form opens to fine-tune details (see below). Tap Done to finish.
Hint

There is no separate opening balance: the balance you enter is the starting point.

Bank accounts and cards also show an Import transactions? banner for adding past transactions from a bank statement (PDF). Tap Import statement — see Import and capture.

Account settings explained

The wizard's last stage and Edit account (from the account screen) share one form. The top edits name, icon and institution; tap Save when done.

Type
A rail with the seven account types.
Currency
Under Details. One currency per account; defaults to your display currency until changed.
Balance
Current Balance on a new account; New Balance with Now X when editing. Changing it records the difference as an Adjustment transaction in the ledger. Cards show Current Debt / New Debt and Credit Limit instead.
Statement Cycle
Cards only. Statement closes and Payment due are day-of-month pickers; days past a month's end count as its last day.
Yield
Fixed Income only. Estimated annual yield (%) for the account.
Counts Towards Tax
Under Options. Marks the account as counting towards tax.
Include in Net Worth
Under Options. When off, this account and its holdings don't count toward your net worth, charts or retirement projections; transactions and reports aren't affected.
In-app notifications
Bank and Cash only: Balance below limit with a Minimum balance, Balance above limit with a Maximum balance, and Large transactions with an Over amount.
Notes
Free text about the account.
Apple Pay Shortcut
iPhone cards only. Enter the card's Wallet card names.

Accounts don't take tags — tags belong to transactions. Archiving and deleting live under Manage when editing.

The account screen

Tap any account on the Net Worth tab to open its own screen. The title is the account name, and the toolbar holds three actions: Reconcile, Import statement and Edit account.

  • The header card shows the balance in the account's currency, a converted total when your display currency differs, and a scrubbable balance-history chart for the selected date range.
  • Credit cards with a limit also show Available, plus a statement line such as Statement closed <date>: <amount> and due <date>.
  • Synced accounts carry an AUTO badge; Bank and Cash accounts show their goal allocation as Assigned: X · Unassigned: Y.
  • Below the header, the ledger has a search field and filter chips for date range, category and tags, followed by transactions grouped by day.
  • A collapsed To categorize row counts uncategorized transactions and opens a bulk sheet with Categorize (N) so you can sort them all at once.

There is no add button on this screen on phones: the center + in the tab bar pre-selects the open account for the new transaction. On iPad and Mac, use the local Add transaction button. Tap a row to edit it.

  1. 1Swipe the row, or press and hold to open the context menu.
  2. 2Tap Delete and confirm. The account balance will be adjusted.
Important

Deleting a transaction cannot be undone. Transfers between accounts are created from the transaction form using the Transfer type, not from this screen.

Adjusting the balance and reconciling

If the balance in Guaca drifts from your real one, open Edit account and tap the Balance tile to enter a New Balance (or New Debt on a card). The form shows the Adjustment as a ± difference, and saving records that difference as a balance adjustment transaction so it appears in the ledger.

To check the account against a bank or card statement line by line, use Reconcile from the account toolbar instead.

  1. 1Tap Reconcile in the account toolbar to open Reconcile <account>.
  2. 2Set the Statement end date and enter the Ending balance from your statement, or the Statement debt as a positive number for a credit card.
  3. 3Check Last reconciled to see where you left off, then tap Start.
  4. 4Toggle each row from Not cleared to Cleared as you match it against the statement.
  5. 5Watch the Statement and Difference figures; add or fix transactions until the difference is zero.
  6. 6Tap Finish, which unlocks once the difference reaches zero.
Hint

Transactions brought in with Import statement arrive already cleared, so reconciling an imported month is mostly a quick review. See Import and capture. Reconcile itself is free on every plan.

Archiving, deleting and hiding accounts

Accounts you no longer use have three exits, each with a different effect on your history. All of them live in the account's edit form: open Edit account and scroll to Manage or Options.

Archive Account
Under Manage. Removes the account from the chips and totals right away with no confirmation, but keeps every transaction. Archived accounts appear behind the Show Archived (N) toggle on the Net Worth tab, where a searchable Archived sheet offers Unarchive per row. You can also tap Unarchive Account in the form.
Delete Account
Under Manage. Permanently removes the account together with all of its transactions after you confirm the Delete <name>? dialog.
Include in Net Worth
Under Options. When off, this account and its holdings don't count toward your net worth, charts, or retirement projections. Transactions and reports aren't affected, so the account keeps working day to day.
Important

Delete is irreversible. The dialog reads: This removes the account and all of its transactions. This cannot be undone. If you only want the account out of sight, archive it instead.

Hint

Accounts can't be dragged into a custom order: within Banking they sort by type section. The Reorder Tabs sheet on the Net Worth tab reorders the chips (Assets and Liabilities), and Reset puts the biggest first automatically.

Accounts in different currencies

Every account has exactly one currency, chosen on the amount hero when you create it. It defaults to your display currency until you change it, and you can adjust it later under Details → Currency in the edit form.

  • Balances are always shown natively; when the account currency differs from your display currency, a converted figure appears alongside it.
  • Chip and section totals on the Net Worth tab convert every account into your display currency using current FX rates, so mixed-currency portfolios add up to a single number.
  • On Android, pull to refresh over the list to update FX rates and prices.
  • Moving money between accounts in different currencies is a Transfer in the transaction form; see Transactions.

Automatic accounts from Wise or PayPal create one account per currency. On the Banking chip they collapse into a single expandable AUTO row labeled N currencies, so a multi-currency wallet stays tidy. Connecting these providers is covered in Sync and settings.
